Business Studies
Subject aims
The teaching of Business Studies prepares St John’s students for the real world of business by giving them opportunities to apply theoretical business learning to various real-life scenarios and to consider the pros and cons of different business behaviour. Students learn and practice the sophisticated technical language used in international business and also consider the impact that business has on society and the environment, both positive and negative. Students develop financial and analytical skills which equip them for further study and work in a globalised economy.
A practical approach to learning is encouraged in this subject. Younger and older students alike are given the opportunity to participate in simulated business activities in the classroom and to reflect on what they have learnt.
Economics
Subject aims
Studying Economics gives St. John’s students a theoretical framework for analyzing the complex changes that are happening in the world today. Students develop a real understanding that the world’s resources are finite and the importance of making informed choices about the use of the world’s natural resources. Students will learn to apply an objective eye to economic problems and how to use and value key economic theories, evidence, and a specialist technical vocabulary.
Students develop evaluative and critical skills which enable them to understand national and international economic developments and to make decisions based on rational analysis.
A realistic and contemporary approach to learning is encouraged in this subject. Students are encouraged to reflect on current economic events and to analyse their possible consequences.
