Romeo and Julia

Friday’s rehearsal certainly was a busy one, with a mixture of acting, dance and singing.

To begin, the main cast and chorus divided into two groups. Mr. Walmsley’s group worked on the famously humorous and dramatic “Do you bite your thumb at me Sir?” scene, while my group worked on the scene that immediately follows, featuring old Montag, his wife and Benny. You don’t have to be an expert in Shakespearean tragedy to realize that Benny is Benvolio, the Montags are the Montagues and the Capoles are the Capulets. In writing the script, I’ve tried to give the characters a modern feel, while keeping true to The Great Man’s masterpiece. |
Miss Fretche took over from that point. Along with ballet dancer extraordinaire, Now (Year 10), she choreographed the fight scene to The Beatles’ crazy, psychedelic anthem ‘Helter Skelter’. When I saw it I was amazed. The lyrics “but you ‘aint no dancer” certainly don’t apply to Miss Fretche.
Meanwhile Promeo and Mewlia were busy singing with Miss Smith. Pro worked on “Mother Nature’s Son’ and “You’ve got to hide your love away” and they both sang our duet version of John Lennon’s beautiful “Julia”. Apparently it went very well. I can’t wait to hear them singing with the band. |

The band, working with Mr. Woolley and Mr. Sams, rehearsed on Tuesday and nailed “Helter Skelter”,
“All you need is love”, “Julia” and are moving on to “Birthday”. Well done boys!
