Romeo and Julia Weekly blog 25th September 2009

Romeo

Things are moving ahead now for the cast of this year’s production with a full read through of Act 1 taking place during Monday night’s rehearsal, including an introduction to the songs that are going to be performed!  The cast very much enjoyed their first glimpse of the characters and were extremely keen to begin reading their parts.

“Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” Mew and Pro got into character for their first read through of the famous balcony scene and other cast members were coached by Mr Walmsley and Mr Bennett to read their lines with passion and expression, as Shakespeare intended.
Mr Walmsley’s advice after this week’s rehearsal was to go home and ‘read the script and try and get to know your character’ with the idea being that once the cast know who their character is and why he/she is there, that the lines will come more naturally…..we will hopefully see the progress next week!

Tuesday afternoon saw the coming together of some of the Yr 10 production band members to make a start on learning the songs. We had Mathew on drums, Steven on bass, Arm and Pawan on electric guitar and Pro helping out with the vocals. Under the guidance of Mr Woolley and Mr Sams the group tried out their own versions of ‘Helter Skelter’,’ All you need is Love’ and ‘The End’.  With the entire score being played and sung by the students , this promises to be a production to remember!
