Geography is taught by specialist geography teachers who have both UK and international experience.
At Key Stage 3 our schemes of work follow the national curriculum of England and Wales and expand from a local/national level to international/global issues. The units are based on topical issues and we make them as relevant to our learners as possible.
At IGCSE we follow the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus and at AS/A2 level we follow Edexcel Syllabus A.
Resources
Geography is taught in a specialist classrooms and houses a large number of general resource textbooks and worksheets for each Key Stage. There is also a wide range of geographical literature and visual resources in the school’s library.
English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Geography
In Key Stage 3 the department is supported by EAL specialist teachers who teach a parallel program (in years 7 & 8) to students who require more assistance with the content specific language. This develops students’ language skills to prepare them for mainstream geography lessons in Year 9. In Year 9 these students enjoy team teaching from the geography and EAL specialists. In this way all students are fully prepared to cope with the language skills required to study geography at IGCSE level. We work successfully as a team and also work exceptionally hard at maintaining high standards in teaching & learning. We are enthusiastic about our subject, open to innovation and ambitious in our goals for the success of our learners.
Fieldwork
We are deeply committed to the benefits of fieldwork for our students. We organise and run field trips throughout the year for our students. Please enjoy viewing the latest photos and information about our more recent trips below.
