Our pupils are given the opportunity to reach their full potential in Thai Language. We want our Thai students to be proud of their language and culture. Studying Thai helps non-Thai students settle in their host country and develop greater understanding and respect for their host community and culture.

The Thai Department provides Thai classes in Thai as a First Language and Thai as a Foreign Language from Nursery to Year 6. Primary students also study Thai culture and Thai Dance.

In Nursery, Reception and Year 1 Thai lessons reinforce the topic work covered in the mainstream classes. Children also learn how to read and write basic Thai. Pupils make use of the reading corner which has a selection of simple stories and fairy tales.

From Year 2 onwards pupils follow the Thai syllabus as laid down by the Ministry of Education. In addition to the core curriculum we encourage development of creative writing skills and use project work to supplement the curriculum.

Pupils learning Thai as a Foreign Language focus on speaking and listening skills, but also learn to read and write the Thai alphabet when they are ready.

The Thai department has organised trips to places of interest such as Bang-Pa in Palace in Ayutthaya and the Royal Chitralada Projects to supplement curriculum work.

We celebrate many important Thai festivals during the school year including Teachers’ Day, Loy Krathong and Songkran.
